How a game works
- Make a player. Pick a name (or roll a random one), a pet, and one of the eight jobs.
- Start small. Everyone begins in a small first job, like Kitchen Porter or Engineering Intern.
- Tap “Next step”. Time moves forward and something happens at work: a project, a busy day, a surprise.
- Make choices. When there is a tricky moment, the player picks what to do and sees what happens.
- Collect stars and get offers. Good work earns stars; other places send job offers to accept or turn down.
- Retire and look back. The game ends with a recap of the whole career and one of ten endings.
What children learn
- Jobs have many steps. Every career is a ladder, from a first job to a top job.
- Choices have consequences. Each decision changes what happens next, without anything going badly wrong.
- Different jobs need different skills. Each job page lists the skills that job uses.
- New words. Children meet real job titles and workplaces, like sous chef, paediatrician or apprentice.
Using careers.games in class (about 20 minutes)
- Before (5 min): ask “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and open that job’s page from the jobs list.
- Play (10 min): everyone plays today’s Daily Challenge, so the whole class starts in exactly the same game.
- After (5 min): compare star scores and use the “questions to talk about” on the job page.
It runs in any browser, including Chromebooks, tablets and interactive whiteboards. Nothing to install, no logins to set up.
Safety and privacy
- No accounts, no sign-up, no email, no chat and no ads.
- A child’s game, prizes and settings are saved only in their own browser. Clearing browser data deletes them.
- Challenge links carry only the player’s first name and score.
- The site uses Google Analytics with anonymised data to count visits. It never receives a child’s name or anything typed in the game.
- It is a game, not career advice: events, salaries and companies are generated for fun.
